The Apostolic Mission of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFRs) is twofold:
First, serve the materially poor, most especially the destitute and homeless. The Albuquerque CFRs opened the Father Solanus Soup Kitchen on South Broadway in November 2007. While the kitchen was open, they served approximately 500 hot lunches per week. After moving to their new friary at 404 San Mateo, the friars went into the streets of Albuquerque to bring food to the homeless. In the spring of 2012, the friars reopened the soup kitchen and have since renamed it Fr. Robert's Kitchen.
Second, evangelize through preaching and teaching the holy Gospel by sharing the rich treasures of the Catholic faith with all. In New Mexico, the friars do prolife work, direct parish missions, run adult and youth retreats, and assist with other evangelistic events. They have also provided pastoral counseling and sacramental ministry.
Every friar is to be personally and directly involved in hands-on work with the poor, and all services are given completely free of charge.
